Many people look forward to the fall. However, it is estimated that 10 to 20 percent of people experience seasonal depression. You may have trouble completing your daily activities if you have seasonal depression. The good news is that there are things that you can do to fight it.
4 Ways Fighting Seasonal Depression
Take a Walk
You will probably feel better if you spend some time outside of the house. That is why the staff members at New Beginnings Family Law, P. C. recommend that you take a walk on a daily basis. Walking helps the body release more serotonin and endorphins. This helps boost your mood. In fact, studies have shown that walking is effective for treating mild to moderate seasonal depression.
Supplement With Vitamin D
Your vitamin D levels drop during the winter due to the fact that you are outside in the sunlight less. Vitamin D deficiency can lead to depression. It has also been linked to poor bone health and weakened immune systems. It is hard to get enough vitamin D from your diet alone, which is why most people will benefit from taking a vitamin D supplement. However, people should consult with a physician before they begin taking a new supplement.
Talk It Out
There is no need for you to keep your feelings bottled up. You should talk to a family member or friend that you trust. You can also talk to a counselor. Studies have shown that talk therapy is just as effective for treating mild depression as antidepressants.
Change Your Diet
Your diet can also influence your mood. Processed and sugary foods are examples of some of the ones that you will need to avoid. While processed foods do temporarily boost mood, this effect is only temporary. That is why it is better to eat more fresh, unprocessed foods, such as fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and healthy fats.
