Comfort Zone – Stepping Out

Comfort Zone – Stepping Out

“If you do not create change, change will create you.” – Anonymous

As Huntsville family law attorneys, we have seen more than our fair share of situations where change has forced people to reevaluate their lives. Unexpected change can be intimidating. Instead of that fear, we encourage our clients to see clean slates and to look at a new beginning as an opportunity to pursue new goals.

Many people want to start anew. They want to eat less and healthier, exercise more, spend more time with the kids, start dating, or travel around the world, but we always think about these things in context within the comfort zone of our lives. This way, when we do not move on new objectives, we do not feel we have lost anything. Having change forced on us is a different story.

New Beginnings Family Law wants everyone to see a fresh start as a time for personal growth. We want you to be ready for new situations, new environments and new people under new circumstances, and being flexible enough to adapt to them even when they take us to unexpected places. You should be excited about the possibility of learning new lessons and improving yourself. And sometimes improvement means going through unexpected changes.

We suggest anyone who has reservations about starting over begin with small change. This is a positive way to build the framework for getting out of your comfort zone. Even if you already have six, get a new hobby. Studies have shown small change can be influential in managing change. It can initiate a snowball effect, overcoming the difficult task of moving on to bigger change.

We want to stress that strength is going to be invaluable moving forward. Not every new change will lead to positive experiences. But change triggers progress. Keep that in mind as you transverse the tough periods. To use a cliché that’s completely true, look at each change as a new chapter in your life. If the time comes to close it, start another one. Avoid resistance to change. Instead, seek it out because without it we never move forward.
